Out of all of the revelations that have come with the release of the 2008 schedule, I'm most shocked about the decision to display the Cleveland Browns and Chicago Bears on the national stage five times.
It makes sense that Chicago, New England and the New York Giants get another go-around of primetime action--however, I feel as if I'm the only one this flabbergasted (that's right, I said it) about Cleveland, a team who came inches away from making their first playoff apperance since 2002, is getting so much love? Even though this decision comes as somewhat of a shock, I'm pleasantly surprised that everyone who doesn't have the luxury of NFL Ticket will get to see how great Braylon Edwards has become. However, I'm not enjoying the fact that I'll continue to be getting a face-full of Tony Romo and Tom Brady every Sunday, Monday and Thursday night, as the two players combine for 10 primetime appearanaces. Also, good for you NFL for not confining yourself to Adrian Peterson and the former Sooner back alone, giving the Vikings and their sadistically sad passing game only three primetime slots.
I'm a little irked that the schedule makers didn't put the new-look Dolphins on at least one primetime slot, being that the 49ers were given a big one against the Cardinals on Monday on Nov. 10, which will be the game that's going to force us to watch Ron Jaworski dismantle every nuance of Alex Smith's ugly throwing mechanics.
Oh, by the way, the Jets FINALLY got a Monday night contest, as they'll square off against the Chargers in Week 3. This will be the first appearance for New York on the Monday night stage since 2005, when their season was marred by a Vinny comeback and Ty Law receiving a penalty on every other play.
