It means they'll have more than four wins in 2008.
Turner, added to supplant Warrick Dunn and compliment scat back Jerious Norwood, will most likely be the primary ball carrier for the Falcons, which is a plus because he has vast experience, speed and bulk and he's only 26 with not that much tred on his tires. Having him and Norwood, who gains at least 4.5 yards per carry, should bolster the Falcons' dreary offense next season. As for Dunn, he was still productive but it was perhaps time for the Falcons to move on because running backs don't have much to offer in terms of future production at 33 years of age.Elam will supplant the ageless Morton Anderson, who had trouble kicking field goals over 40-plus yards. After kicking in Denver for the past decade or so, Elam should benefit even more by kicking in the Georgia Dome and, when the Falcons get in position, they have somebody to rely on to either win the game or get them into overtime. Overall, good signing.
Adding safety Erik Coleman, who had success his first two years in the NFL as a member of Herm Edwards'
cover two defense with the Jets, will look to revitalize his career in Atlanta. Perhaps an addition by subtraction, letting DeAngelo Hall go to the Raiders may have been just that--his locker room presence (and spotty play on the field) just didn't warrant the amount of money and time the Falcons had invested in him as the 8th overall pick in 2004.With a solid draft, the Falcons may be looking at a seven-eight win season in 2008.
